Brett McDonough

Way back in 2004 Brett McDonough saw that there was a need for a more forward thinking farm accountancy service and decided to form an accounting firm with this in mind. He realised that traditional accountancy dealt with dated information and that, in this volatile environment, his clients needed to be more in control than that. Brett actively deals with his clients on a one on one role helping them to add value to their business by knowing where they want to head and helping them achieve it. Brett passionately believes in the great future of agriculture and to that end has invested in dairying since 2009 and in 2011 took full ownership of a 400 cow dairy farm with his wife Barbs, which has been run by 50/50 sharemilkers since that time. Running is a favoured activity and his spare time is spent doing this and watching his kids play sport.

Barbs has been with AgriFocus from the start and is an indispensible member of our team.  Before the establishment of AgriFocus she spent 10 years working in resource management which has left her with organisational and research skills par excellence.  She, like Brett, can be found at both the Gore and Invercargill offices.
Her favourite thing to do at the weekend is to relax a bit, whether this is watching her kids play sport etc, go for a run or just family time.

Born & bred in Southland, Jeremy Bekhuis has a real passion for agriculture and helping his clients meet their goals. Jeremy joins Agrifocus after 6 years in rural banking. Most recently being the senior rural manager for a large trading bank. He is a chartered accountant by trade specialising in rural accounting and commercial property. He strongly shares Brett’s view that accounting is more than just preparing financial accounts, but more importantly planning for the future rather than focusing on the past. His experience as a banker allows him to support clients with succession & growth aspirations as well as providing proposals to key stakeholders. Jeremy and his wife Lena have three young boys, whom he enjoys spending time in the outdoors with. Currently he is unsuccessfully trying to retire from rugby.

Hailing from Central Southland, Campbell Wood has a true passion for anything Agricultural. Campbell has joined the Agrifocus team after 5 years of Rural Banking, and believes in the model in which Agrifocus runs, using historic data to  benchmark where the business is at, and to use this data to help set a plan for moving forward, focusing on the future planning, as you can’t change what’s already been done. Campbell spends the majority of his spare time farming. He is looking forward to helping you with your business and getting you to where you want to be.

Since January 2010 Bev has been gracing us with her presence (and on special occasions the presence of her marvellous meringues).  Bev discovered a while    ago that she has an aptitude for maths and working with numbers.  Her specialties at AgriFocus are wages, PAYE, GST and BankLink, so if you have any  questions about any of those ask for Bev.  Weekends are spent catching up with the family.

Donna joined the AgriFocus team in November 2017.  She originally grew up on a sheep and beef farm in Gisborne but shifted to Southland with a bank in 2014, where she was a Rural Manager prior to having a family.  Prior to that she worked for an accountant before heading overseas for two years to ride horses.   She has also recently completed an accounting degree.  Donna currently lives on a lifestyle block, which runs sheep, near Winton with her husband and two primary school aged boys.  Netball in the winter and waterskiing during the summer keeps her busy outside of work.

Emma began with AgriFocus in 2012  She and her husband mix sharemilking with raising three children.  She studied Business Administration at the Southern Institute of Technology, got a job in the accounts section of a local business and fine tuned her skills by doing her own farming accounts.  Emma's weekends are spent catching up with friends and family between milkings.

Fiona began with AgriFocus in 2013 bringing a wealth of experience and expertise with her. She has a Diploma in Commerce and Accounting and 12 years experience in accountancy. Her interests outside of work include equestrian and netball.

Karen's AgriFocus career began at the front desk in 2009 before stepping sideways into GST and drafting.  She reckons that she spends the majority of her time pestering Susan for help when, in fact, she spends most of her time doing GSTs and completing draft sets of accounts.  At the moment Karen is only allowed off the farm for three days a week so we make the most of her while she is here.

Pauline joined AgriFocus team in July 2017.  She is the friendly voice that will answer the phone and deal with your initial query.  She has had a large amount of experience in administration roles during her varied work career.  Outside of work she enjoys playing for the "Old Tarts" netball team (one of the most social teams in Southland), "outing and abouting" in their classic car, a 1968 Pontiac Ventura and spending time with the growing family.

Before coming to work at AgriFocus Susan was a painter decorator and a mum.  She's still a mum but gave up the painting decorating because she figured that working with numbers would be easier on her health.  She had worked with Brett many years before and jumped at the chance to work with him again when she saw a situation vacant advertisement in the paper in 2005.  Susan's forte is working with the IRD and clients regarding all sorts of tax and getting everything sorted so our clients can be assured that everything has been filed on time.  The time out of work is spent with her family.

Teegan is our newest recruit at the Agrifocus team. She recently graduated from Lincoln University with a BComm majoring in accounting and finance. Teegans interests outside of work include show jumping and netball.
